Contemporary Chinese Literature in Translation

This course offers an introduction to the literature of 20th century China. It is designed for students with little knowledge of Chinese language or culture. the main goal is to gain knowledge and understanding of the modern Chinese-speaking world, including Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, through the mediation of literature. Students are expected to nurture a sensibility to literary texts and a critical consciousness in cross-cultural context.
