HA 505 City of Tokyo (Spring 2013): Introduction and Required Materials

Guide for students and instructors of HA 505 on how to use the library and find resources.

About This Course

Since the foundation of the city as the de facto capital of Japan vis-à-vis the ancient capital of Kyoto in the early 17th century, Tokyo has claimed itself as the site for new artistic experimentations, expressions and pop imagination and served as Japan's political and economic center. Given such seemingly "unique" characteristics, this course will closely examine the history, manifestations, and political significations of Tokyo as the epicenter of Japanese art and culture.
