Open Access Digital Projects on Manuscripts
- DigiPal: Digital Resource and Database for Palaeography, Manuscript Studies and Diplomatic
Developed at the Department of Digital Humanities at King's College London, the project aims to bring new methods in Digital Humanities to the study of medieval handwriting in its diplomatic and manuscript context by combining digital catalogues, descriptions of handwriting, and images of documents and their constituent letter-forms.
- The Making of Charlemagne's Europe (2012-2014)The 'Making of Charlemagne's Europe' project was carried out at King's College London between January 2012 and December 2014. It offers a single, unified database framework for the extraction of prosopographical and socio-economic data found in early medieval legal documents. They provide a "Guide For Students" on early medieval charters as well as a "Glossary."
- Monastic Manuscript Project (ongoing)This is a database of descriptions of manuscripts that contain texts relevant for the study of early medieval monasticism. Includes links to a number of web resources, such as manuscript catalogues, online texts and translations, digitized manuscripts and repertoria.
- CULTIVATE MSS (2019-2024)
Based at the Institute of English Studies at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, "Cultural Values and the International Trade in Medieval European Manuscripts, c. 1900-1945" project examines the impact of collectors of medieval manuscripts, experts and dealers on the formation of collections and the development of scholarship between 1900 and 1945.
- Mapping Manuscript Migrations (2019-2021)
This multi-partner project links disparate datasets from Europe and North America to provide an international view of the history and provenance of medieval and Renaissance manuscripts. Researchers are able to analyze and visualize the aggregated data at scales ranging from individual manuscripts to thousands of manuscripts.
