Putting the FL in STEM: the Link Between Foreign Languages and the STEM Fields

Maryland's competitive edge depends on the preparation of graduates who are highly skilled in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and proficient in languages other than English. As part of Maryland's Federal Race to the Top funding, the WORLD LANGUAGES PIPELINES project is designed to plan and implement K-5 programs in Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish.

The following content-enriched STEM modules were developed collaboratively by Maryland teachers and the Maryland State Department of Education, along with a group of national consultants. These modules provide a resource for language teachers that is infused with STEM content and designed and taught WITH an interdisciplinary and problem-solving approach.
