Resources for Editors of Scholarly Journals: Increasing Journal Visibility and Impact

Digital Publishing Services at the University of Kansas Libraries have created this guide to assist those thinking of starting a new journal or working with an existing journal. Contact Marianne Reed (mreed@ku.edu) if you have any questions.

Making your journal more visible

Scholars want to publish in journals that can increase the visibility and impact of their research.  The resources below offer ways to enhance the visibility of a journal at the article level and beyond.

  • Article-level Metrics Primer (pdf)
Providing article-level metrics can increase the visibility of the articles published in a journal.  The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) has a good primer on article-level metrics that might be helpful in conversations with publishers.
  • Impact and Bibliometrics: Journal Impact
This guide from the University of Kansas is primarily aimed at authors, but has some good information for journal editors and advisory boards about the factors that scholars will be looking for in a journal that will increase their visibility.
