What is OCR?

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is the process of identifying printed characters using computer software. This LibGuide contains some basic information about OCR as well as an overview of some open and commercial tools for performing OCR. Tool descriptions include the results of performing OCR on several images from KU's collections along with step-by-step instructions for use.
