The State Library of Kansas has announced that beginning August 1st, 2012 it will offer the Mango Languages online language-learning system to the state of Kansas.
Learning a new language with Mango Languages is made available to all Kansas library patrons, at no charge, by the State Library of Kansas and offers a fast and convenient solution for our state’s increasing language-learning needs. Each lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application that integrates components of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture. Courses can be accessed online or through a dedicated Ipad app.
These courses offer a basic introduction to a variety of languages for those wishing to explore new languages, however it is not, of course, a substitute for KU’s extensive offering of foreign language classes! Information about all of KU’s offerings can be found at: http://sllc.ku.edu/languages-offered
KU library patrons can access the Mango language course at link at the top of this subject guide (KU Online ID required to use this link).
Alternatively, Kansas residents without a KU online ID can receive a State Library of Kansas card number at their local public library (e.g. Lawrence Public Library). You only need to present an ID with your current address and they can issue you a State Library card number on the spot. You can then connect to Mango at http://www.kslc.org,
