Embedding Fonts

Image gives numbers for each step, listed below.

Embedding Fonts

When submitting your thesis or dissertation online to UMI you will need to embed your fonts. This allows others who may not have the same set of fonts on their system to still view your document as you intend it to be viewed.

  1. Click on the File tab.
  2. From the dropdown menu click Options.
  3. In the Word Options box, click Save from the list on the left.
  4. Check the box labeled "Embed fonts in file."
  5. Uncheck the box labeled "Do not embed common system fonts."
  6. Click OK when finished.

On Word 2016 (PC and Mac) and Word 2011 (Mac), fonts are automatically embedded, so many users can skip this process.

Want to double-check to see if your fonts are embedded?

  1. Open the PDF in Adobe Reader.
  2. Click File and then Properties.
  3. Click on the Fonts tab. All embedded fonts will be listed here.
