Print Catalogues Search
Print Catalogues are often multi-volume sets covering many artists and listing all the known prints by each artist. Sometimes they are limited to a specific technique or prints from certain dates. They serve as a primary reference resource for serious print research.
- Index to Print Catalogues Raisonnes (IPCR)IPCR is searchable by the name of the artist or publisher whose work is being catalogued. The artist’s name is followed by his dates, nationality, and a list of alias or alternative names. Following the name, will be one or more citations for multi-artist publications (such as The Illustrated Bartsch), monographs, exhibition catalogues, periodical articles, theses, or manuscripts.

- Le Peintre Graveur byWürzburg: Verlagsdruckerei Würzburg g. m. b. h., 1920. 21v. Originally published in mid-19th century, this is the foundation study for the systematic study of Dutch, Flemish, German, and Italian painter-engravers through the 17th century.
- The Illustrated Bartsch byNew York: Abaris Books, 1978-. Includes 70+ volumes with each in 2 parts: a) an illustration volumes with images of all prints listed by Bartsch, b) a text volume with illustrations of prints attributed subsequent to Bartsch plus detailed commentary.
- Les Graveurs du XIX Siècle; Guide de l’Amateur d’Estampes Modernes byParis, L. Conquet, 1885-1892. 12v + plates. The fundamental dictionary and inventory catalogue of the works of 19th century printmakers, primarily French.
- Le Peintre-Graveur Illustré (XIXe et XXe Siècles) byParis: 1906-30. 32v. Catalogues raisonnes of prominent graphic artists, primarily French, of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Each work is illustrated.
- Early Italian Engraving; a Critical Catalogue with Complete Reproduction of All the Prints Described byLondon: Pub. for M. Knoedler, New York, by B. Quaritch, 1938-1948. 7v. Short articles on each artist with biographic and bibliographic information is followed by a list of works with descriptions of the various states, dimensions, collections, watermarks, incriptions, and references.
- Dutch and Flemish Etchings, Engravings, and Woodcuts, ca. 1450-1700. byAmsterdam: M. Hertzberger, 1949-2010. 72v. Continued by The New Hollstein Dutch & Flemish Etchings, Engravings and Eoodcuts, 1450-1700 in which "all volumes in the series "up to Rembrandt" are undergoing "an integral revision." Arranged alphabetially by artist's name with illustrations, dimensions, and all known states.
- German Engravings, Etchings, and Woodcuts, ca. 1400-1700 byAmsterdam: M. Hertzberger, 1954-. 78v. Continued by The New Hollstein German Engravings, Etchings and Woodcuts, 1400-1700 with revisions of earlier volumes. organized alphabetically by artist's name with illustrations, dimensions, and all known states.
